Greg Berndtson

Greg Berndtson, former Design Director Plus, began working on the G.I. Joe brand by doing the accessory details for the figures during its earliest days of development. He later went on to work on such things such as the Jump Jet Pack, Wolverine, Tomahawk, Cobra Maggot, Amphibious Personnel Carrier (APC) carry case, and many other Joe vehicles. Greg is largely known for his involvement in developing the U.S.S. Flagg Aircraft carrier and helping convince upper management to approve this massive playset! In mid-1985, he became Design Director for the G.I. Joe brand and was in this position until August, 1994.

What were some of your favorite moments working on G.I. Joe?

What is your greatest accomplishment with the G.I. Joe line?

Who is your favorite figure? Why?

“Working with ' All hands on deck' during the creation of the Space Shuttle Complex.”

“This one is hard as managing and creating stuff for the brand during my tenure, I consider as an accomplishment.  But to single out a couple of items......perhaps the Aircraft Carrier and the reintroduction of Talking Duke 12inch figure stand out.”

“Cobra Frag-Viper.  I liked the grenade thrower device he came with because after seeing one used in a Hai Lai game, I knew it would be a neat device for throwing something.”

In your opinion, what characteristics made the G.I. Joe brand team successful?

“The talents of everyone involved all coming together was the key.”

Who is your favorite vehicle/playset? Why?

“Aside from the Air Craft Carrier and Space Shuttle Complex, I also like the Rolling Thunder vehicle because of the 2 large rockets.”
