Vinnie D’Alleva, former Vice President of Marketing, is an avid fan and supporter of G.I.Joe – both before and after he worked at Hasbro! While Marketing Director on the brand, he considers himself very fortunate to have worked with some of the best designers, artists, engineers and sales people in the company and to have had the chance to work on several notable initiatives such as Battle Corps, Ninja Force, D.E.F., Eco-Warriors, Mega-Marines, Star Brigade, Masterpiece Collection and Hall Of Fame. He worked on the brand a total of 8 years and was even turned into one of the venerable villains of Cobra (both in toy and real-life form), the nefarious Cesspool!
He continues to work within both the toy and baby industries, collects comic books and action figures of many types and is an avid movie fan. He currently lives in Newton, Massachusetts and maintains that Hasbro was one of the best places he’s ever worked at!
What were some of your favorite moments working on G.I. Joe?
“There are so many, but some of my favorites were presenting at Line Reviews whether internally or to the outside groups. I was always so proud of the work we did that I wanted to share it with everyone.”
What is your greatest accomplishment with the G.I. Joe line?
Who is your favorite figure? Why?
“I guess it’d have to be successfully relaunching G.I.Joe 12” figures. This was a pivotal time in G.I.Joe’s history where we did not have content to support the story. Our introduction of a ‘whole new way to play’ ushered in a time of recollection for dads and their children, and ended up creating a trend that Hasbro and others followed with a new, larger scale of figure play.”
“I’d have to say Road Pig. I mean, c’mon, what’s cooler or more outrageous than a cinder block mallet?!”
In your opinion, what characteristics made the G.I. Joe brand team successful?
“Well, it was never just about the brand – it was about all of the various factions and disciplines working together under very stringent guiderails and still finding ways to innovate and surprise kids. That camaraderie was something very special and difficult to replicate.”
Who is your favorite vehicle/playset? Why?
“The Defiant Shuttle Complex – it was just so over-the-top and full of features, action and scale! It gave Joe an epic presence that has been hard to beat!”
